educated guess

I love what I do – really, really love what I do.

I do not however always love the people I work with.

A couple of weeks ago, a current client referred someone to me. What she wanted was very simple – a very close duplication of her current, free site.

I took a look at the site. Yup, I can do it.

Here is how much time it’ll take me (8hrs) and here is my quote (hourly w/a bit of a discount because she was referred by a current client).

Easy job.

She was tickled, so happy. Couldn’t wait to get started.

Sent me the money.

Sent me an email saying (paraphrased): “Oh BTW, I am a control freak.”

I, like an idiot, did not run.

Three weeks later I’ve got nearly 30 hrs in to this little project. “Control freak” does not begin to describe the level at which this woman wants to direct this project. We are talking right down to 1/8th inch increments on margins.

I am to make the margin on the LEFT side of a certain page the same width as the fifth word in the first sentence.

I shit you not.

SHE has what is essentially a completely new, customized site for a little more than half of what I would normally ask.

I have a noose over the rafters in the garage.

As soon as I sign off of this project, I am checking out.
